State Testing Instructions for Students
Students are responsible for registering for their CNA state certification exam through an approved testing agency. You may choose from any of the available agencies.
Follow these steps to begin:

Watch the tutorial video provided by the agency for detailed instructions on how to register and schedule your exam.

Important: Credentia has knowledge paper testing and skill. TMU has the tablet knowledge testing and skills.

After completing your exam, you must log in to your personal account with the testing agency to access your results.

San Diego Medical College does not have access to your test scores or exam results. All results are securely released by the agency through your individual account.

The 2024 National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP®)
Written (Oral) Examination Content Outline
The revised content outline is based on the findings from the 2019–2020 Job Analysis and Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Study of Nurse Aides published by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) in 2023. The examination content outline will be effective April 2024.
The NNAAP written examination is comprised of seventy (70) multiple choice items; ten (10) of these items are pretest (non-scored) items on which statistical information will be collected. The NNAAP oral examination is comprised of sixty (60) multiple choice items and ten (10) reading comprehension (word recognition) items.

EXAM DETAILS:
The Certified Nurse Assistant state exam consist of two areas:

Manual Examination.
Written Exam:

There will be a total of 70 multiple choice questions.

Maximum hours to complete the exam: 2 hours
-
15 minutes warning time to complete the exam will be communicated by the test evaluator.
ORAL Written Examination:
-
For applicants who elect to request for an ORAL WRITTEN exam, the applicant will receive an MP3 player with headphones. An additional $15 fee is added to the application fees.
Manual Exam:
-
The exam is 4-6 hours. Please plan accordingly.
-
Be prepared to complete and test on five (5) different skills.
-
The "hand washing" skill will be on all exams.
-

The student will have 30 minutes to complete the exam.
-
There are 23 skills in the handbook. The skills that states "Skills Not Tested" are not included in the final grading score.
-
A step that is highlighted in bold type is called a Critical Element Step. If you leave out a critical element step or do not perform correctly, you will fail the exam.
